Dear colleagues
We are delighted to announce that following an external search and subsequent recruitment process, Samantha Waters has been appointed to the role of Chief Governance Officer & University Secretary. Samantha, who has been undertaking the Interim University Secretary role, commenced the substantive position with effect from 17 March 2025.
Samantha has a well-established background in legal, compliance and governance roles, most recently for Halton Borough Council. Prior to this Samantha worked for the University of Wolverhampton holding a range of roles over her tenure there with her last position being University Secretary and Chief Operations Officer. In addition, Samantha has extensive experience of working in public sector organisations prior to moving into the Higher Education sector.
Samantha has said, “The Chief Governance Officer & University Secretary, leading governance and assurance institution-wide, offers the opportunity to contribute to strategic decision-making and drive positive change in a University which has a long history of excellence. It is exciting to be a part of the future at Aberdeen and colleagues across the University have been incredibly welcoming and kind. Alongside my team, we now have the opportunity to drive efficiency and innovation in governance, strategic planning and risk processes to create a positive impact for us all.”
