EE4012: ELECTRICAL MACHINES AND DRIVES (2025-2026)

Last modified: 5 Days, 10 Hours, 22 Minutes ago

Course Overview

This course examines the design, modelling and control of electrical machines and drives. Modelling of various electrical machines (induction, synchronous and DC) is discussed, and the two-axis-machine theory is mentioned. Fundamental knowledge of coordinate transformation is introduced. Steady-state and dynamic performance of machines are considered in detail. Simulation techniques with MATLAB/SIMULINK are used in studying both dynamic and steady state performance of the electrical machines and drives.
Medium and high-performance AC drives are considered, including V/f and vector control drives. DC machine drives (thyristor-controlled and transistor-controlled drives) are discussed and analysed.
