Staff hosted 80 pupils from St Machar Academy, delivering an engaging and interactive experience. The workshop in the engineering department was facilitated by Dr Andres San-Millan, Lecturer in Robotics.
During the workshop, pupils were introduced to the concept of robotics. They were given a brief history of robots and explained the origins of the word "robot." This was followed by a guided activity where the pupils learned to create their first program using the Scratch programming language. They programmed the educational robot, Codey Rocky, to perform basic tasks.
After the guided session, pupils had the opportunity to work autonomously. They programmed their robots to follow a road, experimenting with different combinations of tiles to navigate various paths. This hands-on experience allowed them to apply what they learned and see immediate results from their programming efforts.
In addition to the engineering workshop, the pupils participated in activities within the computing and education departments. These sessions provided a well-rounded overview of the different subjects and the opportunities available at our University.
